Youth solon wants inquiry on substandard broadband internet

Kabataan Partylist Representative Raymond Palatino is calling for an investigation of substandard” commercial broadband internet services in the country. Palatino recently filed House Resolution 407 pushing for an inquiry on the quality of broadband internet services delivered by commercial telecommunication companies.

The blogger-turned-solon said that while telecommunication companies charge consumers with exorbitant rates for broadband internet access, consumers continue to complain of problems such as limited coverage of broadband services and internet speeds not reflective of its marketing claims.

“Most of the promos, packages and features being advertised by broadband providers are deceptive. Thousands of Filipino internet users complain of substandard services, slow internet speed, limited coverage, unfair fees and hidden charges,” said Palatino.

According to Palatino, he also wants a probe on reports that “when frustrated Filipino internet users opt out of such substandard services, they are often virtually penalized by telecommunication companies through the imposition of exorbitant pre-termination fees.”

Compared to other countries that have imposed standards on such service, the Philippines has none despite having a high estimate of 30 million internet users across the country.

“The government has powers to regulate internet services and should definitely look at these issues. Communications and access to information is a public good,” he said.

Palatino said the National Telecommunications Commission (NTC) has failed to implement standards that would compel telecommunication companies to provide consumers the quality of service that they deserve and pay for.

Moreover, Palatino said that Congress should come up with appropriate laws to set “legal and just broadband service standards” in order to uplift the quality of internet services in the country.”

“The government should be stricter in monitoring whether services are complying to standards. Corporations should be made to own up to what they promote and not leave consumers hanging after they purchase their products. Government should work harder to protect consumer rights and welfare,” he added. ###

Now if it can actually be focused on and get a good outcome out of it like 1k php for 4mbps lol!

  11. By the way mga sir tama yang gagawin ng youth na yan, as of now broadband internet services po kasi ay napakamahal at ang services nila ay below 60%, of what we pay which is 100%...Pero bago nila pag-aralan at gawin ang kanilang isinusulong eh matinding imbestigasyon at impormasyon ang dapat nilang makalap sa mga telecommunication company na nag bibigay ng broadband services nila.

Dapat bumaba ang lahat ng price plan nila at ibigay ang 100% reliability at hassle free na connection with their clients.

    Vote for kabataan party list!

Heheh.
