PLDT Prolink H5004N Configuration and Firmware upgrade

Discussion in 'PLDT DSL' started by wencer, Feb 18, 2013.

  1. As part of my PLDT plan, they gave this new ADSL modem/router with wifi. But the problem is PLDT has customized the firmware that the ordinary user cannot configure some advance settings like ssid, port forwarding, etc..
I manage to change my SSID by saving the configuration (config.img) locally and I edited it and restoring back to the device.
My problem now is the port forwarding, first the advance menu in port forwarding was disabled but you can access the page by forcing it in the browser. I found out that port forwarding was not enabled but if you try to enabled it and apply the changes, the device won't accept the new settings.
I think the other way to configure it is by uploading an edited config.img file or by upgrading the firmware.
Can somebody help me? Does anyone tried to update the firmware? I searched from prolink site and its says there that the firmware for H5004n is not intended for Philippines.

Natanggap namin ang free Prolink H5004N kahapon. Since mayroon na kaming non-wireless modem hooked to a fine Linksys router, I don't plan on using this PLDT modem anytime soon. Lalo na with its crippled firmware.

Soto make it useful, I tried to find ways to upgrade the firmware. Kung ma brick man, it's not much of a loss for me. Upgrading the firmware was quite easy. The "Not for Philippines" firmware should do just fine. So I went through the usual scenarios for firmware upgrade.

I pressed the reset button while powering up the modem. I noticed it stayed in the booting state with the red power LED lit when I did that. It must be in some recovery state. The question is how to access the router in this mode? I went through many tools but luckily the simplest method worked. I found the router recovery page at http://192.168.1.194.

I uploaded the regular Prolink H5004N through this web page and after a while it asked me to reboot the modem by power cycling it.

Initially it won't reset the settings of the PLDT firmware. The old PLDT setting still apply after upgrading the firmware unless you press the reset button after rebooting. The new default settings will take effect. Username: admin Password: password.

I have a running setup and so I can't test it. Update your modem at your own risk. I will not be responsible for any problem that may arise.

I don't know.

  7. I just downloaded the firmware from the Prolink website at ginamit ko yung "upgrade function" sa web interface ng router/modem. Everything went well. Just try to remember or backup the settings for the IP and reenter afterwards.... OK naman.. but it did not cure yung problem ko... mabagal and nag didisconnect..

IMHO, mas forgiving pa nga ang PLDT kaysa Globe DSL when it comes to using alternative modems-routers.

I am currently using CDR-King modem on MyDSL. It is set to bridged mode connected to a gigabit router. I had to flash the H5004N to be able to switch to bridged mode. The H5004N serves as back-up lang.

Binili ko mainly for the 4-ports for an experiment. Before that, gamit ko Aztech modem from Bayantel pero single LAN port lang.

Di ko masabi kung OK because di ko pa nagamit ng matagal ang built-in routers. External router parati ako. Tinest ko for one day ang ang H5004N. Wala naman disconnect issue. Maghapon nakakalaro ng online games ang anak ko without any DC.

I do have a problem kahit anung modem ang gagamitin ko. This results in lag sa online gaming. I don't think ang modem or router ang dahilan because kahit nirecta ko na ang DSL modem in bridged mode to my PC, ganun pa rin.

Maraming salamat. Last Question.

Here's the screenshot for the WAN configuration page for PLDT use. Hindi ito ang normal setting ko since I am normally using it in bridged mode.

I have great ADSL numbers and this probably explains my stable connection. Speeds are consistent throughout the day, Di lang pwede mag mix ang online gaming at torrents.

Recently upgraded to plan 999. Speedtest result using the above settings.

Maraming Salamat bro.

Pero ang PLDT nag lagay ng malaking cable from their central office about 1KM away. But maganda pa rin ang SNR and attenuation readings. In our building, exclusive sa PLDT o Digitel lang. Sa ibang building, pwede Globe o PLDT.

Here are the speed graphs taken from the router. Yan ang nakikita ng PLDT as my bandwidth consumption. I am downloading a torrent and the speed reading sa torrent client is 162kB/s. Yan ang nakikita ng end user as their internet speed. Mas mababa because of protocol overhead. I am on plan 999.
