Microsoft's "Black Screen" anti-piracy add-on released in China

An anti-piracy tactic by Microsoft that turns some computer users' screens black is setting off a wave of unexpected indignation among Chinese consumers, posing renewed problems for the software maker in the huge China market.

While the tool has been in use for several years, the update released by the internet is more intrusive when it detects a fake copy of XP: it turns the PC's desktop black, replacing the user's background image. A piracy warning appears in the corner of the screen. Though the user can override the blackout, it reappears every 60 minutes.

  9. off nyo lang live update nyo. or if mag update kayo choose custom install. uncheck the ine that says "genuine"...... forgot yung name basta genuine una nuon uncheck that. yung lang ginagawa ko eversince i got that black screen.

if nakuha nyo naman na yang black screen na yan. system restore kayo on the date of the update tapos turn off nyo na yung live update.

  14. medyo related na tanong lang mga sir. sa mga users ng hotmail they have a new format now and it is asking me to update my browser. di ko pa update browser ko baka kasi mag blackscreen nanaman ako e.

pangit kasi ng layout ng hotmail ngayon e kaya iniisip ko mag update. tuloy ko ba?

Here's the English version of the "Black Screen" nagware...

"Customers whose machines are found to be running dodgy copies of XP will see their desktop backgrounds change to a “plain black background”. A user can change their screen settings as desired, but the nagware will, er, paint it black every 60 minutes. A static message will also hang around on the desktop, pestering the user that their copy of XP appears to be a knock-off version of the operating system."

GAK ata ang tawag sa method na yan, yung Genuine Authentication Killer, pero kung ako sayo warlock kung orig naman sya, why not take time nalang to activate it, kasi sayang naman. Still it will be considered as pirated by the system.
