how do noobs who sign up for this know about the cap?

    1. its prominently mentioned in their website and their ads – of course not
    2. #1, but in small print – nope
    3. Small print in their contract
    4. The agents say, Oh by the way, there’s a cap
    5. No one says anything. They find out for themselves. Suddenly they get low speeds.

#1 and 2 is fair. #3 is sneaky. #4 and 5 is bordering on false advertising

if this ISP becomes profitable and successful, maybe others will also start to impose caps.

Your correct. There agents was trained not to directly say the capped and the limit data or those sneaky part unless subs asked. Thats the evil part of the business. But you can sue them just try to read the contract before signing

20 mbps is impossible unless you get new hspa+ dongles. AFAIK the common 3.5g dongles are bottlenecked to 7 something mbps even if the cellsite is HSPA+
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/3.5G

and even if you are so lucky to have a HSPA+ cellsite, theoretical lang ang 20 mbps kasi meron din congestion

I think you saw the ads of smart and you immediately assumed that ALL subscribers will get 20 mbps. I think thats overly optimistic. Has smart started distributing HSPA+ dongles?

and since you asked, my share it only peaks at 1.6 mbps during off peak hours. Taga probinsya ako so i dont expect na aabot sa akin ang upgraded cellsite for some time. Even then due to congestion I would be happy with only a small speed boost to > 2 mbps

  11. My speedtest using wi-tribe:

    Interface ng software nya.

So far, very stable ang connection nya at "consistent" sya ndi sya "burstable" lang.

Dongle type ang gamit ko. i've tried using globe wimax pero ndi sya ganito eh.

San Miguel broadband is the best!

    @X.A.

Somehow you have special connections to get twice the subscribed speed. Even then, I am not at all impressed with the upload speed.

Try downloading more than 3GB and then come back with a speedtest.

look at this claim in the tipidpc wi tribe thread

    tipidpc wi tribe thread

there is no way AFAIK you can throttle downloading and web browsing with different speeds. Even with packet filtering maybe you can throttle p2p but even then there are ways around that

More info regarding this dongle at: http://www.techreaders.com/2009/08/wi-t ... h-no-line/
