Forum: Modem Router Config Settings Téma: Zyxel P-660R-D1 Router Configuration Mode ------------------------------------------------- dyoddyowel: note: to avoid confusion... this guide is for people who wants to enable the ROUTING capabilities of their modem and share the internet connection using a switch or hub, so there's no need for them to buy a router... this guide is NOT intended for people who are using a separate router like linksys, dlink, edimax, tplink, etc... this is not a guide on how to configure your modem so you can use it together with your newly bought router... (as i find most people are confused and thought they needed to do this before setting up their router) if you are using a separate router, then there is no need to follow this guide and configure your modem to router mode... all configuration should be done on your router, leave your modem alone... default modem settings is bridge mode... although you can follow this guide, set your modem to router mode and still use a separate router, but that would result in a double router connections... that also means double port forwarding rules... ################################################################## ################################################################## You may need to set a static IP address on your computer first before you can access the web config... (you know how to do that right?) computer IP: 192.168.1.33 subnet mask: 255.255.255.0 default gateway: 192.168.1.1 save settings and reboot... after restarting, on your web browser type 192.168.1.1 you need to login as admin on your modem to be able to see and make changes to these settings... otherwise you would only see the status page... if that is the case, then you are logged in only as a guest mode... try any of these password to login as admin... 1234 admin1234 adminpldt 1234567890 if you entered admin mode correctly, then the password change screen will appear asking you to change the default admin password... if you click Ignore, this screen will always appear everytime you log in as admin... it is highly recommended to change the default password... click "Go to Advanced setup" checked "Click here to always start with the Advanced setup" if you want to always go directly to advanced setup, otherwise just leave it blank... then follow the screenshots to guide you... this is the status page when in bridge mode... take note of VPI / VCI value here and use it on the next configuration page... ################################################################## ################################################################## go to Network / WAN / Internet Connection TAB Mode: Routing Encapsulation: ENET ENCAP Multiplexing: LLC VPI: 0 VCI: 100 or VCI: 35 use whatever VCI works for you... then click Obtain an IP Address Automatically click Apply if unsure about your VPI/VCI settings in your area, call 172 and ask... ################################################################## ################################################################## go to Network / LAN / IP TAB IP Address: 192.168.1.1 IP Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0 click Apply ################################################################## ################################################################## go to Network / LAN / DHCP Setup TAB DHCP: Server IP Pool Starting Address: 192.168.1.100 Pool Size: 32 note: increase or decrease Pool Size corresponding to your needs... click Apply optional: you can also enter your preferred DNS server if you want... OpenDNS Servers Primary: 208.67.222.222 Secondary: 208.67.220.220 Google DNS Primary: 8.8.8.8 Secondary: 8.8.4.4 ################################################################## ################################################################## go to Network / NAT / General TAB check Active Network Translation (NAT) check SUA Only click Apply ################################################################## ################################################################## go to Maintenance / Tools / Restart TAB then restart to make the new configuration take effect... ################################################################## ################################################################## after restarting, you can check the status page of your modem to verify the settings... the screenshot above is what your status page should look like when in router mode... the System Status is already in routing mode, and the Device Information now shows your IP address, Subnet Mask, and Default Gateway and the DHCP server is now active... above values are just an example, you could set your own values like in IP starting address and pool size, etc... after this, you can change your computer back to Dynamic IP Address if you like... above screenshots were taken from a working connection... that means if it doesn't work for you, it's either you are doing something wrong or you didn't follow the guide completely... in that case, go back to step 1 and try again and do not skip a step... if it doesn't work out, try hard resetting your modem, hold the reset switch at the back of your modem for a few seconds then try following the guide again... edited to include more info and to stop redundant questions as much as possible as most questions asked are already answered throughout this thread... bluesphere77: Hello!Im a newbie here. You can still have a static IP address for the PC but make sure all the blank entries such IP address, netmask, gateway and DNS server addresses should be filled out. Or you must switch back the settings to "obtain IP address automatically" and "obtain DNS server addresses automaxtically" as per the instructions. XP dialer PPPOE to connect to the internet yet when i go to the settings of my zyxel it states it is on bridge mode.How come PLDT did not configure it to PPPOE if that is what I do on XP?For information purposes, I have the small biz lite plan of 2.2mbps with a static IP included in the package.I am stuck with ALWAYS having to use XP dialer PPPOE.What I find curious is that how come I cannot configure PPPOE under Bridge mode? However, I noticed now that I have the router configured all the NAT settings needs to be reprogrammed.This is a hassle thats why I wanted bridge mode PPOE so that I don't have to deal with forwarding ports and all (individually) (afterall all i want is a single PC connection without having to use router mode and doing all the NAT and port forwards hassle) In any case it seems I have a technical issue. I just called PLDT and they claim i have an IPDSLAM connection which is always a PPPOE connection.They mentioned that NGN is the one that is always on and works via DHCP but you can still have a static IP with the same speed and bandwith as IPDSLAM.I think NGN is a simpler connection type because this whole PPPOE forces you to use a router which complicates matters when all you have is a single PC connection (you have to configure all these port forwards and stuff). You've been such a great help really and don't want to bother you with more questions but my situation now that i have my connection always on without that stinking winXP pppoe dialer is how to avoid configuring NAT(thats why i was asking about bridge PPPOE at the start).Do you think if I experiment with using PPPOA under bridge mode this would help me out if i tinker with it or it would not be compatible at all? I used the 1-1 mapping of my local IP to the WAN IP and it maps all ports without having to manually open individual ports (however, i did have to use the NAT full feature instead of the SUA to use the 1-1 mapping). Correct po kayo don kasi I confirmed it to 172. But changing VCI value to 100, I was able to convert it to router. It accepts the gateway value but still no browsing. The only way I can browse is by connecting the Zyxel (it its original bridge mode) straight to the PC.It is strange to note that WindowsXP DHCP client works but both Vonage router's and WRT54G's DHCP client does not. JeffLo: hello guys just want to add something regarding intermitent connection ng pldt and that you need to power cycle evrytime, baase on my experience, its not that pldts connection is at fault, for me its usually or common thing i found out is its the router that is at fault, ever since 7 years ago i always seem to link the modem crash with p2p like b4 its was kazza then torrents, it has something to do with con current connections if i set my torrents to have a lot of con current half open connections and max connections and the windows setting thingy like the one they patch from lvllord the event id something the limits half open con current connections if i set it to high my modem would always crash it, b4 i didnt have anyone to ask help on how to fix it, even as we knw pldt techs hehehehe so i begun to try all posible thing to fix it like having new wires from the post to the modem, dsl filters, clean connections of the wires from the telephone box and all of that , i discovered not sure if this is applicable to all, its always ends up on the con current connection and using the pldts cheap modems built it router, and i remembered even using bridge mode and just using a good pc to dial, it last longer but still i get crash on the modem so i have to power cycle it to get it back working again, then i finally bought a better router to control my traffic and wala everything is ok now, ive tested it like 5 separate places with this type of problem, 3 of them was my place and office and 2 from separate friends networks, it all boils down to cheap router getting good ones prevent it from lock-ups but even a expensive cisco router has its limits so the best solution i found is not to set the max connection settings like half open con current connections or something to do with connecting to a lot of peers at the same time coz it will bog down your router, and its always good to do the basic things that making sure your landline wires have solid contact, scraping out the what you call it like oxidation from the contacts or its it rust is a good thing coz in time it will get rust or oxidize.... one thing i notice about the the max con current thing is even if you think im not using p2p atm why does my modem still crash, its b4 when you check you network activity thiers a lot of other connections trying to syn hack ip sweep something like that my firewall always bug me about that, dos attacks and other time of attacks that would make your modem or router go bonkers.. first thing i would recommend is cleaning up the wires, going to the modem, then make sure dsl filters are used this helps alot, and the last is the settings for your con current connection, making sure no spyware virus and other types of negative thingy, using one a single pc first then observer then if posible try to use a standalone router dont use the built in router if your having freezes and such, for it this was the sure fire way i get stable connection on my pldt dsl, i dont need to power cycle anymore, but sometimes i do when im not doing anything and i feel like to power cycle it, power cycling its just a habit for me coz of pldt tech support b4 lol. but even i can go on now like a month with out power cycling i'll post pics of my modems up time, this is a new connection plan 990 with the p-660rd1 but i had power cycled it i think yesterday was doing nothing and just went to push the on off switch lol JeffLo: the above one has 40 hours up time this one is around 30+ hours from my old pldt dsl i'll try not to power cycle anymore and see how long it will crash its just a bad habit becoz of pldt tech, hello sir pls turn your modem off and on lol but since then i havent had any problem needing to cycle, i need stable connection coz i also play onle games world of warcraft, and i sure need my connection up adn not freaking dying on me in a guild raid =) hope this will help others with intermitent problems i always blame intermitent problems to lousy built in routers =) JeffLo: and one more thing its good to add a fan to your routers coz they go hot, i think its also one big factor for it to crash, i always hack my routers case (not saying you should do) and add a 80mm computer fan and slodering it to the 12volt input of the power adaptor. i know 80mm are overkill, but i have lots of them heheheand sorry for the typo's im born with this talent for making typo's xyberxy: ei jefflo... panung interminent ? nawawala ung ilaw sa modem??? o meron ilaw ung modem pero wla internet... sakin meron ilaw lahat pero wlang internet.... wla ako router.. ralphswurld: akin rin may ilaw lahat bat walang net. kaasar tlga xyberxy: ganyan din sakin ralph hahaha PLDT ba may problem dun??? hehe amp lagi BUSY ung 171-3 haha siguro hindi lang tau ang nakakaranas ng gnayan..... gudluck! I just wanted to share my experience with PLDT and how to deal with them. I have been dealing with PLDT personnels for almost a year now regarding my DSL connection and plan. I am subscribed to their Professional Plan (Plan 3000). By then, when I applied for it, they offered a speed of up to 5Mbps. Take note - 5 Mbps. After signing up for this plan, about 2 months later, they changed it to Plan 3000 to a speed of up to 3 Mbps. Before I applied for that plan, I specifically asked them the difference of the 3 different plans they offer - Plan 999, 1995 and 3000. They said that each of them has a different speed levels which is "up to" 1 Mbps for the plan 999, 2 Mbps for plan 1995 and 3Mbps for plan 3000. But take note of the words "up to". I told them that I don't care about the maximum speed they can deliver but what my concern is the "minimum guaranteed speed" that each plan offers because that what makes it differs from each of the plans. So, the person in charge and another person from manila and another from cebu told me that the minimum guaranteed speed that I should be getting is 70% of the plan signed up for and an average of 80% speed all through out if my location is or about 1 KM from the port. Luckily for me, I am within 1 KM from the PLDT central office from which my DSL is connected. Unfortunately, with the plan that I signed up for, they can only deliver of less than 1.5 Mbps (test taken from the PLDT play which they have currently overhauled to give the "accurate" speed)which is still far below the 3.5 Mbps guaranteed speed. But before this scenario, the pldt play and the speedtest.net singapore sever registered a very high output for my speed which ranged from 4 Mbps to 6 Mbps even if my connection was very slow. I could tell that my connection was slow due to the video(s) in youtube, ebaumsworld, etc. that they keep on buffering. (Don't get me wrong, I have a little program running if i browse the net and I have a fast speed computer with dual core 64 bit processor and 2 GB memory.)And to some of my test sites in which I have a benchmark of the speed every hour, (like testmy.net, 2wire.com, etc.) they show a very consistent speed. During peak hours, the testmy.net and 2wire.com show speed that's almost consistent with my browsing but PLDT play and speedtest.net singapore sever shows a different story otherwise. No matter what time of day, PLDT play and singapore server showed a consistent of 4 Mbps - 6 Mbps speed. But that has changed all now. Singapore server and PLDT play is quite consistent with the testmy.net results. Enough for that, if you have complains about your DSL, make sure you know the terms or computer lingos or have somebody who knows computer very well to talk to the PLDT "network engineers". You should demand that you need an "engineer" to fix your problem and not a "trained technician" of PLDT. A lot of their trained technicians don't really know what they are doing. They will just give you "alibis" to satisfy you or give explanations which is actually not related to the problem you might be experiencing. You, as a subscriber and don't know much about the networking, you tend to just accept their alibis. And in most cases, if the problem persists, what most of the technicians do is just tell you to reset your modem, turn off your computer or simply they will just reset the port of connection where your DSL is connected. You have to bear in mind though, that any resetting WILL ONLY SOLVE THE PROBLEM "TEMPORARILY". If the problem is in the connection or the hardware or software which is most likely, the problem will still persist over time. The engineers should locate the real cause of the problem and fix it - not patch it by just pressing the reset button or powering down your system. Another thing, if you call their 171 or 172 support, be sure to log every phone calls you make. Make a spreed sheet that logs your call - date and time of call, agent you talk to, nature of call, comment regarding the call, etc. This is very helpful for future reference especially if you apply for a rebate. According to PLDT that they don't issue rebate if the problem did not last longer than 24 hours. But this is a very bad practice. You as a paying customer, you should demand for a rebate regardless you were down for 1 hour, 2 hours or whatever - as long as you have a service interruption. Let us put this into logic, if they don't give rebates to customers to a problem that did not persist for more than 24 hours, then they can interrupt their service for 23 hours a day and give you only 1 hour of service daily. Will it be fair enough for you especially if you are paying the full amount every month? The amount you are paying every month for your DSL service should be uninterrupted service for 24/7. You should call the 171-53 (log your call again) and apply for a rebate. If you have slow connection, complain and ask for rebates too. Tell the PLDT that you are not getting the service you are paying for. I hope every one will do what I am suggesting and advising. I need every one to do their share so at least PLDT will improve their service. Right now, I am getting a regular/monthly rebate of more than P2000 until they fix the problem. In your past posts, you said that the default settings is in bridge mode. So I left my dsl modem configs as is, no changes, so currently I'm also in bridge mode. My router is only a TP-LINK TL-R402M. On Wan ----Connection type: PPPOE ----then supplied my account username and password ----Choose "connect automatically" 3. Mac Clone ----No setup change here 4. DHCP ----enable DHCP server ----start IP: 192.168.0.100 ----end IP: 192.168.0.199 so after these, I shutdown the computer and router. Then wait for 30 seconds. After these, I power on my dsl modem, waited for the power and dsl led light stop blinking. After that, I powered on my router and my pc. I go to firefox to see my router status, sadly, the status is disconnected. I tried connecting manually using the button there. Di ko alam kung may problem sa pag-connect ng router sa dsl modem ko. Gusto ko kasi sanang i-cap ng mas mababa 'yung D/L speeds sa ibang PC na nakiki-share ng Internet connection through the router/switch. That way, kahit mag-torrent 'yung ilang PCs, limited lang ang D/L speeds nila at 'di masasagad 'yung available bandwidth and adversely affected 'yung surfing experience ng iba pang client PCs. I was able to upgrade it to 3.40(AGE.4)C0 without any problems at all. I also enabled all five of my dsl modems to act as router and they were able to connect longer now and more stable.
